REVOLTING COCKS
COCKED AND LOADED

ALBUM 13TH PLANET, AFM, SOUND POLLUTION RELEASE: FEBRUARY 24, 2006 REVIEW: FEBRUARY 16, 2006

It took 13 years for this album by Al Jorgensen and his RevCo to see the light of day. Or the neon light of the night, I should perhaps say, because this is music that is best played in a sleazy rock club or in the car, driving 180 miles per hour around midnight. It's fun, sample filled and guitar heavy, as you can imagine, and the best way to describe it is as a kind of "Ministry light".

So, is "Cocked and Loaded" worth the wait? Nah, if you already are a fan, you will dig this, no doubt. But if you're not, the chances are you'll sleep on it. This is rock'n'roll made by a bunch of guys (like guests Dave Gibbons of ZZ Top and Jello Biafra.whoa!) that want to have fun. And they have. Sometimes the weirdness gets out of hand, like in the strange "Ten Millon Ways to Die" or just plain out boring and bizarre like in "Jack in the Crack". But more often than not, Revolting Cocks do rock, and they rock hard with a big grin on their collective face - like in Iggy Pop-penned "Fire Engine" or in heavy "Pole Grinder".

I really like this, but then again I have liked almost everything Al Jourgensen has put out. But if you are a fan of Ministry or QOTSA, you'll dig this too. Just don't listen that closely to the lyrics. They almost sound like the stuff pretty drunk guys make sick jokes about in the tour bus. Hell, maybe they are! But it's still rock'n'roll, and as I said: I like it, despite myself.
