Just as my colleague Johan Carlsson,
I am totally knocked out by Rimheden's
and Lidbo's bubbly, detail-filled
electro cover of Tears for Fears’
"Shout". The question is:
Do the three remixes and new song
"Beat of the Night" make
this single worth buying?
Hell,
yeah!
If
you like the original cover you are
almost guaranteed to like the way
each consecutive remix dissects the
original further. Although I myself
am not a fan of the kind of techno
beat displayed in the "Thomas
Andersson Mix" I’m sure
some of you are. I like the echo-filled
"Sophie Rimheden Mix" and
the industrial "Grudge Remix"
better, although the latter is a bit
tacky. But hey, I’m sure some
of you techno heads out there will
kill for Mr Andersson.
"Beat
of the Night" – you notice
I have saved the best for last –
is the reason to buy this single even
if you already have got the "Electropop
Heroes vol 2" compilation (where
"Shout" is one of the strongest
tracks). An almost ambient soundscape
with a distinctive beat, very repetitive
and almost pornographic in quality,
combined with Rimheden's floating,
distorted vocals makes this a perfect
tune for driving in a car through
an empty city at night. Sort of like
an intelligent and more accomplished
Client, in a way.
A
must-buy if you are the least interested
in Swedish electronica.
