KLAUS SCHULZE & LISA GERRARD
FARSCAPE
DOUBLE ALBUM SYNTHETIC SYMPHONY RELEASE: JULY 7, 2008 REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 8, 2008

True beauty rarely comes along through the medium of a double album so when it does, pray you're aware of it. "Farscape" from electronic music legend Klaus Schulze and Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard is just such a release. The pairing of these two artists was inevitable and the expectations unenviable. The results are phenomenal. Over the course of six days and two recording sessions, this splendid jewel was crafted and given life.

Schulze brings out his machines to magnificent effect, unleashing thunderous washes, panoramic sequences; the music is sometimes overwhelming like a tidal wave; blanketing your ears like an aural tsunami. There are minimal rhythms gently skipping along which serve as a kind of baseline from which we elevate ourselves.

Then there is Gerrard's end of it which amazingly serves more as an accent to the driving and elegant arrangements Schulze fashions effortlessly. She intuitively knows exactly where to stride forth with that dynamic voice, sometimes the symmetry terrifies me.

These two blend alchemically like mercury molding itself to whatever surrounding it is in, "Farscape" is dynamically ornate. This surely cannot be the only thing they ever do, there has to be more. Please say there will be more.
