CAPTURE THE MOMENT
ALBUM ACCESSION RELEASE: MAY 26, 2006 REVIEW: JULY 19, 2006

"Discovered by Apoptygma Berzerk. First album produced by Icon of Coil." Yeah, so? "Capture the Moment" proves that Richard Björklund does it better on his own. The overly futurepop-molded debut "Elements of Truth" radiated torrents of enigmatic chorus power, but stumbled clumsily in between.

Even though most of us would have been better off escaping yet another minute of redundancy called "Intro" (well, OK, it's called "The Beginning" this time), the rest of "Capture the Moment" truly shines, almost unexpectedly. From "Of the End" to "Better Tomorrow" (track seven!) things are hovering consistently at a pleasurable level of greatness. Dud track and back to prime club electropop with "Fame".

Looking only to sense of melody and bubble gum catchieness, Spektralized are already among the best in the business. Seven, and not eight, out of ten, because of the annoyingly cliched lyrics, but that's an easier fix than lack of good song writing. Good on you, Richard!
