STATIC-X
MACHINE
ALBUM WARNER RELEASE: MAY 22,
2001 REVIEW: JUNE 26, 2001

Chuga
chuga guitars, growling vocals, some synth noises and fast drumming. Yes,
we have heard it before. And better than this.
Static-X consists of four
Korn-lookalikes that really want to look hard and dangerous. I usually
like this kind of music, but this record doesn't give me anything.
A couple of songs have something that catches me, like the chorus in "Black
and White", but mostly they just melt together.
The
lack of imagination is one thing that makes this record stand out, and that is really not a positive aspect. The album ends with the obligatory
slow, more industrial track that is supposed to say that "we can
make other music too". But it has been done so much better by the
likes of Fear Factory.
If
you really like music that sounds like I described it at the beginning,
go ahead and buy it, I know people who like this album.
