SURGE
WRECKAGE
ALBUM MILLENNIUM, HOUSE OF KICKS/MNW RELEASE:
MAY 29, 2000 REVIEW: MAY 24, 2000
Surge hails from the very outskirts of Triphopland. With groovy beats, a
certain ambience and female vocals "Wreckage" is, simply, a brilliant
album. Songs like the title track and "Falling Moment" emanate energy and
perhaps a bit aggression, while for instance "Cold Air" and "Smokey Sunday"
is more laid back with a sly undertone. On the album's last three songs
pure beauty is allowed to prevail and it's also here the more ambient parts
are to be found.
The sound is somehow very British, in a positive meaning, and at
"Wreckage"s best moments it gives me the feeling of being back home on my
old street in an English coastal town again.
