TETSUO FURUDATE
(X).X IS NOT A MAN OR X IS MORTAL
ALBUM GOD FACTORY RELEASE: SPRING, 2000 REVIEW: JUNE 13, 2000
This live recording sees Japanese singer and multiinstrumentalist Tetsuo
Furudate perform two long pieces and a shorter one. While the shorter is little
more than an extremely monotonous beating of a metal sheet and the second
sounds mostly like the slowly mutating sound of a distant thunderstorm
culminating into chaotic voice samples, the opening track has the biggest
potential. There, Furudate builds up minidramas using furious orchestral
samples, passages of near silence and the roaring sound of his guitar.
Unfortunately he doesn't seem able to realize his ideas fully, but merely
lay them on top of one another, so that in the end this feels like little
more than one long, drawn out anticlimax.
