WELLE ERDBALL
VW KÄFER & 1000 TAGE
EP SYNTHETIC SYMPHONY, ENERGY RELEASE: FEBRUARY 5, 2001 REVIEW: MARCH 14, 2001

I've been in love with Welle Erdball since they released "Tanzpalast 2000". The two latest singles, or EP:s to be more accurate, "Starfighter F-104G" and "VW Käfer & 1000 Tage", have, if anything, further increased my fondness of the band.
This one holds no less than seven different tracks, two of which are older songs, "Nyntändo-Schock (letzte Stufe)" and "Monoton und minimal (KB Version)", remixed very successfully here.
The title track "VW Käfer & 1000 Tage" is a perky, bleep-sweepy experience at the top of their performance, describing a journey through Europe in an old Volkswagen Käfer car. "1000 Tage" is something you simply need to hear to get a picture of.
The three other new songs, "Metal Dust (Level 1-4)", "Wasserstoff (H)" and "Berühren (minimale Version)" are almost as brilliant as the two featured in the title of this fantastic EP. Welle Erdball is about insanely clever, yet simple melodies, doing one's own thing and having a blast in the process.
"Die Wunderwelt der Technik", the upcoming full length, should be nothing less than a future classic in the electropop genre.
