I am seldom impressed by COP releaeses
but this time they really have me. To re-release material from Will's classic
albums "Pearls of Great Price" and "Word Flesh Stone" on one CD is a great act
indeed.
I am afraid Will are unknown to most, but lets pray new people can enter the cold
and dark world of Will with "Déjà Vu". This is an quite old Canadian band with
previous and present Front Line Assembly men Rhys Fulber and Chris Peterson in
the middle. Another, early FLA member, Michael Balch, is also involved briefly
here; he plays the guitar.
Will is about dark, dramatic electronics deeply inspired by classic and medieval
music. Awesome melody loops, bombastic drums, choirs, screaming - you get the
picture. The pieces are so powerful you can actually imagine yourself on a ancient
battlefield. Especially the faster "Crowning Glory" makes me shiver each time.
After a while it's easy to feel overwhelmed, because the tracks are quite similar
in design. But it's a small minus. There are lots of hard men out there trying
to make this kind of cool music. Will laughs them in the face.
