During the Mute festival at the Roundhouse in London this May, I sat down with Vince Clarke of Erasure and we had a nice chat for this Release article in connection to the new album “Tomorrow’s World”. Since then Erasure have embarked on two tours, starting with the Total Pop! Forest tour, which was expanded to include South and North America apart from the whole of Europe. Recently they changed the format of the tour to match the new album. It is scheduled to be released on October 3. If you are a nitpicker like me and actually enjoy reading the credit and production pages in booklets and press releases and have a genuine interest in electronic music the you will have read the name Gareth Jones several times. If not, you will most definitely have listened to music produced, mixed or engineered by him.

Gareth Jones is an English record producer mixer from London and during the eighties he was involved in making some of the most ground breaking electronic records and worked with artists such as Depeche Mode, Humpe Humpe, Thomas Fehlmann, Einstürzende Neubauten, Wire, Diamanda Galas, Erasure and Nick Cave. He started his music career as a trainee at the BBC, but is mostly self-taught, and was employed at the Pathway studio where he recorded and mixed the album “Metamatic” by John Foxx in 1980. Becoming a Berliner he spent many years as a resident producer at famed Hansa Studio recording and co-producing the Depeche Mode albums “Construction Time Again”, “Some Great Reward” and “Black Celebration”. He has been in the front line in terms of technical development and has made some pioneering work using digital equipment, especially the use of sampling. [more...]

During 2011 Kraftwerk introduced a new live show in Munich and in the spring of 2012 Kraftwerk performed 8 nights in a row at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. During these concerts some new 3D projections were shown and continuing that theme it has taken Kraftwerk to the US, Japan, Brazil and to my personal joy Gothenburg and the Way out West festival. From the EIS (Erasure Information Service) newsletter we learn that Erasure will start recording a brand new album in November. No more information regarding a release date or forthcoming tour is announced yet.
