As expected, Depeche Mode announced their new European tour today on a press conference in Paris. All the 3 members appeared on stage and answered numerous questions (some stranger than others).
The tour kicks off in Tel Aviv, Israel, on May 7, 2013 and goes on until July 29, when it ends on Minsk. They will also do a small warm-up gig, but nothing has been decided yet.
The band revealed that Dave Gahan has written more songs than ever for the new album and that he and Martin Gore have recorded close to 20 songs together. Gore described the sound as a hybrid of “Violator” and “Soungs of Faith and Devotion”. A new song was premiered in the intro video for the press conference (YouTube clip below). They mentioned the extensive album collaboration with programmer Christoffer Berg (from Release’s hometown Gothenburg) and that they (of course) are still involved with Daniel Miller, Anton Corbijn (stage design) and their live musicians Christian Eigner and Peter Gordeno.
The tour is still unnamed, and there are neither titles nor release dates for the first single and the album.
