Blancmange, Das Ich (pic), S.P.O.C.K, Twice a Man, Leaether Strip, Malaise, Neotek, Blipblop and Asfalt make up the line-up for Nostalgifesten #2, a one day nostalgia festival in Malmö on Saturday, April 27. We talked to Blancmange who are preparing a new, fifth album, S.P.O.C.K and one of the organizers.
British pop band Blancmange was founded in 1979 and was on the “Some Bizarre Compilation” 1981 alongside Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. Blancmange released 3 albums 1982-1985 and their main hits were “Living on the Ceiling” (1982) and “Don’t Tell Me” (1984). They released their fourth album “Blanc Burn” a quarter of a century later, in 2011.
- We’ll be performing songs from our back catalogue along with 1 or 2 newer songs from “Blanc Burn”. We are currently recording material for a new album with a release penciled in for early 2014, singer Neil Arthur tells me.
- Were are looking forward to our short visit to Sweden. A first for us as Blancmange. The line up will be Graham Henderson on keyboards/electronics and Neil Arthur on vocals, accompanied by our films/visuals.
As for the other festival bands, Twice a Man have not performed in Skåne since the 80:s and they have promised to play some gems from the past.
We are happy to see that Das Ich are back on their feet after frontman Stefan Ackermann’s severe brain hemorrhage.
S.P.O.C.K will perform twice in Malmö now: on the festival and in May. Saturday is all about time travel.
- We’ll perform songs from 1993 and backwards with focus on stuff that we don’t intend to play at our own 25th Anniversary on May 24, Android tells me.
Leaether Strip resides in nearby Denmark but has actually never performed live in Skåne.
- He was hired for a Virtual X-Mas fest once, but the gig was cancelled and he was replaced with Armageddon Dildos co-organizer Steve Nilsson says.
I watched a 2 hour and 17 hour performance by Leaether Strip 3 days ago in Gothenburg – and Claus Larsen has certainly not lost his energy. He promises an aggressive and old-school performance in Malmö.
Nostalgifesten #2 will be held at 2 venues in Malmö on Saturday, April 27: Babel and Deep.
